Join us for a discussion of women’s lives transformed by addiction, love, family, and the urban world. These two powerful voices have plenty of insight to offer and plenty of questions to explore with us. All are welcome!
Emily Hockaday (she/her) (left) is the author of Blood Music (Harbor Editions 2025), In a Body (Harbor Editions 2023), Naming the Ghost (Cornerstone Press 2022), and six chapbooks.
She is a De Groot Foundation Writer of Note and has received grants from Flushing Town Hall, the NYFA Queens Art Fund, Café Royal Cultural Foundation, and NY City Artist Corps.
Emily writes about ecology, parenthood, the urban environment, and chronic illness.

Christine Kandic Torres (right) is the author of the novel, The Girls in Queens (HarperVia), which was selected for the American Library Association's 2023 Rise Feminist Booklist.
Her Pushcart Prize-nominated work has been published in outlets such as Literary Hub, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, Wigleaf, The Offing, and Kweli.
She is the recipient of a Jerome Foundation emerging artist fellowship for fiction at the Anderson Center, and a New Work Grant from the Queens Council on the Arts.
Her work has additionally been supported by residencies and workshops from Hedgebrook, VONA, Vermont Studio Center, Rowland Writers Retreat, and the Macondo Writers Workshop.
Born and raised in New York City, Christine currently resides in Connecticut and is the fiction editor for the Connecticut Literary Anthology series.
